Ride Along the North Channel

The Island North Tour is home to one of the most picturesque islands in the Manitoulin chain of islands: St Joseph Island. And it’s a must-do for riders. The island is located about 45 minutes from downtown Sault Ste. Marie. You can ride from the mainland via a toll-free bridge with spectacular views. St. Joseph Island is known for its friendly villages and its beautiful location in the North Channel of Lake Huron.

The island has some attractions that are easy to ride to such as Fort St. Joseph National Historic Site of Canada. The remains of this historic fort date back to the War of 1812. At the fort, you can view the exhibits inside the visitor centre. Afterward, take part in an exhilarating experience like musket firing! Learn more about settler life with a visit to the St. Joseph Island Museum. This site consists of buildings and artifacts donated by residents. Lastly, another unique stop in Adcock’s Woodland Gardens.

We recommend you meander through the quaint shops and grab a bite to eat in Richards Landing and Hilton Beach. Did you know that St. Joseph Island is the largest centre of maple syrup production in Ontario?

This ride can be used as an extra day on The Grand Algoma Tour or as the destination for your ride. Either way, be sure to ride the island.
