Gateway to the North

Nakina, Ontario, began in 1923 as a vital railway hub for the National Transcontinental Railway. Today, this northern town serves mineral exploration and is a premier gateway to Canada’s remote wilderness for hunters and anglers. The village is located on Highway 58, approximately 60 km from Geraldton and is home to about 500 residents. It’s part of the Municipality of Greenstone.

An interesting fact about this town is that during World War II, a radar base was located at the edge of town. The radar base was used to watch for potential attacks on the strategically important Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Many northern fly-in lodges fly out of Nakina, offering excellent fishing for walleye, northern pike, whitefish, brook trout and lake trout. And there are hunting opportunities for moose and black bear.
