Drive-in Fishing Vacations

Find endless drive-in fishing opportunities in the region.

Do you really have to fly in to experience world-class fishing for bass, walleye, giant northern pike or trophy trout? Absolutely not.

Fly-in fishing adventures are true bucket list experiences that should be enjoyed at least once in a lifetime. But a lot of those social media posts with folks holding huge fish caught across Northern Ontario are usually from drive-in locations to angling lodge operators with their own boats or the boats supplied by the operator.

Some of the finest smallmouth bass and walleye trips we have personally experienced are from locations where we towed our own boat across the highways and byways of Northern Ontario. And right to the doorstep of our cottage or cabin by the lake. One particular region that is easily accessible to anglers across Canada and the United States is Ontario’s Algoma Country. This region is quietly gaining a reputation as the place to go for world-class angling adventures, regardless of what species of fish you want to catch.

Just about every lodge operator has a fleet of rental boats available to guests. But sometimes you just want to fish out of your own rig, and these drive-to locations offer that option. Check out this link and see just how many options you have depending on how far you wish to drive and what species of fish you’re after.

With 28,000 square miles of beautiful Canadian wilderness, Algoma Country has thousands of bodies of water to choose from and the best fishing lodges or resorts anywhere. You can choose from full-service American Plan lodges to housekeeping cabins, with all the trip essentials you’ll need: boat, motor, fuel, guide services and amenities.

Looking for a certain species of fish? Algoma is rich with diverse fish species that inhabit the lakes, rivers and streams. Enjoy year-round fishing from the excitement of the walleye opener in May, throughout the summer months, fishing for bass to fall fishing for brook trout. Winter ice fishing has anglers pulling in big trout and northern pike throughout the area. This region has a multitude of fish species that offer drive-to opportunities.

As an added incentive to fish Algoma, the bass fishing seasons are longer and offer more options for the dedicated bass angler. In Zone 10, smallmouth and largemouth bass are open all year in all waters north of Highway 17. All waters west of where the east bank of the Serpent River crosses Highway 17. Most of these areas are drive-to locations!

When you’re planning your next angling adventure, think of Algoma Country and the endless opportunities that you can drive to with your own boat and park right beside your cottage or cabin.
