Adventure Along the Rails.

Algoma is home to a truly unique experience, traveling to a remote lake via the train!  So, for those wishing to train in rather than flying, your destination of choice has to be Algoma.  Your trip begins by boarding the recently refurbished Via Rail “Budd Car” where you will be whisked through the remote recesses of Algoma in the comfortable surroundings of a modern train coach. Simply load up your gear, relax, and let VIA get you on track to your fishing destination.

Many different options are available for the lodges located on the rail line, with offerings of many different species dependent on the property you visit. The lodges along the rail line system can brag about huge northern pike, walleye galore, whitefish, perch, lake trout and brookies!  Imagine a shore lunch after a morning of fishing with these offerings. Once your arm is tired from hauling in your catch, many of these lodges offer ways to explore nature.  Kayak or canoe the calm waters of their remote lakes. Capture breathtaking wildlife shots with the click of the shutter of your camera or just relax enjoying the quiet and remoteness of your surroundings.

Boarding the train in Algoma is easy, you simply travel to either White River or Chapleau. Located in Southern Ontario? No Problem! The rail service extends to Sudbury, Ontario so, no need to drive longer than that!  Did you know you can depart Toronto on the world-famous Canadian arriving in the heart of the Algoma wilderness the next afternoon?  This means our friends in Quebec, New York and beyond can leave their cars at home if they wish! Simply contact your lodge and they will be happy to guide you through the process of booking your train ticket. It’s that easy!

With so many outfitters, cabins and fishing lodges located along the rail lines in Algoma, it’s easy to plan a dream fishing or wilderness trip via train that you will never forget.

Please note VIA Rail does not travel out of Sault Ste. Marie.
