Two important things to know when riding your ATV in Ontario:
- If you are riding on private property, no trail permits are required.
- If you are riding on OFATV Club or any other non-federation club trails, then a trail permit is required from whichever organization maintains those trails.

OFATV Trail Guide – Elliot Lake
With over 300 km of trails, Elliot Lake has one of the largest ATV trail networks in the country. The city is surrounded by lush wilderness, rocky landscape and rugged terrain. This area is ideal for an ATV adventure. Supported by the local ATV club, riders are never more than 20 minutes away from city amenities and services. Restaurants, attractions and places to stay are close. The trail system is great for riders of all ages, groups of friends and families.
The Elliot Lake Trail System is an OFATV Club trail system, so you need a permit to ride these trails.

By buying a permit, your support helps the Elliot Lake ATV Club maintain its extensive system. Permits can be purchased for 1-day, 3-days, or 1-year. You can buy a discounted Family Pass if you’re a family who lives in the same household and wants to buy more than 2 full memberships.
ATV Events
In Algoma Country, several ATV events take place in the spring, summer and fall. Local clubs and groups host Poker Runs and BBQs that support local causes and charities and build camaraderie amongst riders. Registration is usually required and open to anyone who wants to come out for a fun day of riding, food, prizes and socializing. Check out the Algoma Country Events Calendar. ATV Trail Etiquette

ATV Laws Ontario
Ontario law requires all riders to wear helmets and other safety gear when riding an ATV. You should also have proof of insurance with you.

Bringing Your ATV Into Canada
The Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge is the nearest border crossing and a gateway into the region. To bring your ATV into Canada for personal use, bring:
- proof of ownership
- registration of your vehicle with your home state (if applicable)
- proof of insurance
