Communities That Friendly.

Algoma is the smallest region in northern Ontario but still spans 28,000 square miles. Looking at an Ontario map, the region starts east of Spanish, Ontario, following the Lake Huron coastline to Sault Ste. Marie. From the “Soo”, the region expands west to White River then north to Nakina and Hearst. After that, it’s to Chapleau and Elliot Lake. Bordered by two of the greatest Great Lakes, Huron and Superior, the region is dotted with cities & towns as unique as the geography.

Each community is brimming with things to do, attractions, shops, fantastic accommodations and great places to eat. Whether you’re here for business or leisure, a weekend getaway or longer, take an urban break for a spa pampering, an evening of theatre, shopping, sporting events, wonderful dining experiences and get up close to nature all in the same vacation.

Algoma’s cities & towns are linked by scenic highway routes like the world-renowned Wawa to Sault Ste. Marie on TransCanada Hwy 17. It’s known as one of the Top Ten Drives in Canada. The Deer Trail Touring Route has an abundance of opportunities for wildlife viewing. For more touring ideas visit our touring page. There are many museums, galleries, tours and events, including the famous Agawa Canyon Tour Train. Take a selfie with some of the best and even quirkiest roadside attractions. It’s photographic bragging rights for sure! And be sure to speak with our friendly locals as they are experts in the area.
